“Through this collaboration, we are choosing something different.” – 2025 participant
The Long Now of Education is an emerging movement for transformation and a source of optimism for HFLI, first experienced during the inaugural gathering in 2024. Founded and hosted by the Colorado Academy’s REDI Lab in Denver, Colorado, The Long Now of Education “spans a 10,000-year arc to help us explore and develop learning that is worthy of human potential.”
In 2025, we collaborated with the REDI Lab team to develop the experience and served as the site host for the two-day invitation-only convening, held at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation in Dearborn, Michigan. The overarching goal of the 02025 Long Now of Education centered on refocusing our attention with a reimagined purpose to drive transformative, not incremental, change in education.
Together, an intentionally diverse group of 17 education leaders put aside titles, paused immediate tasks, and set out to seize the power of the location and each other to develop durable relationships and accomplish three major goals together:
- Envision desired futures in education
- Identify innovative projects to advance toward those futures
- Nurture this community of practice
