Six diverse teams- each made up of 2-5 leaders from a small nonprofit that serves young people in Detroit – will have the opportunity to build skills and capacity to address an identified immediate challenge, as well as those which continue to arise. Design Thinking for Deeper Student Learning

@The Henry Ford Museum | Dearborn MI | July 26-28, 2023

This three-day immersive workshop is designed to introduce educators from all disciplines to design thinking tools and methods they can use to create and facilitate powerful and equitable learning experiences for their students. Working individually and in small teams, participants will work on a specific, community-connected challenge to gain knowledge, skills and experience with design thinking. They will also explore available resources, join topic-specific “table talks,” and develop a plan of action they can bring back to their home school for immediate benefit.

Allies for Radical Collaboration

@The Henry Ford Museum | Dearborn MI | August 1-3, 2023

Plus, seven monthly remote follow-on meetups

This immersive series is for white educators who lead, love, and nurture students from diverse backgrounds. Developed collaboratively by HFLI and Black Male Educators Alliance with the support of The Skillman Foundation, our second cohort’s journey will include learning how to intentionally plan, develop and implement culturally responsive practices that support deep and meaningful learning experiences for their students. Our time together includes both in-person learning August 1-3, and remote meetups in each of the following seven months – a structure intended to support the needs of educators not only from lower Michigan, but across the country. Michigan Teacher Retention Design Challenge

@Kent ISD | Grand Rapids MI | March 15-16, 2023

Join HFLI and Education Elements for a two-day human-centered design challenge to develop targeted solution ideas that help schools and districts empower and more effectively engage educators — increasing the likelihood of retention and job satisfaction. Participants will leave with a tangible solution idea and actionable steps for feedback and further development.

Design challenges are team sports, so we encourage your district to bring at least three individuals to participate in the process. If you’re wondering who to include, think variety: teachers, school leaders, district administrators, HR professionals – the more perspectives, the better.
