Job Description

Our Technology Coordinator supports the immediate day-to-day technology needs at Henry Ford Academy: School for Creative Studies in Detroit. The Technology Coordinator ensures that all technology policies are supported, that teachers, administrative staff and students have the technology tools and training to use the tools for high-impact instruction and efficiency.



Support the Day-to-Day Needs of the School—
• Provide technical support and maintenance for all computers and tablets, printers, copiers, phone systems (mobile & wired), software and database systems
• Handle all needs for audio and video equipment, including but not limited to: interactive white boards, projectors, TV’s, sound systems and cameras
• Provide support to teachers with integrating technology into lesson plans or developing technology-centric projects
• Assist teachers with class-related websites
• Preparation for group testing and data collection
• Preparation of grade reports


Data Management —
• Manage and support all school data systems including but not limited to: PowerSchool, Mastery Connect, Lunch Management Program, and SchoolReach


Operations —
• Manage software deployment on all computers, tablets, and mobile phones
• Maintain mobile and VOIP phone systems
• Review requests to purchase or acquire new hardware, software, or apps with HFLI’s Associate Director of Technology (ensure alignment with existing platforms, ability to provide support, etc.)
• Maintain software-licensing records and ensure full compliance with all licensing requirements
• Receive and process technology shipments
• Maintain equipment inventory with warranty information, services records and take appropriate safeguards to prevent and report any suspected theft
• Manage and reinforce all technology policies and procedures
• Manage all school Google accounts
• Format and print ID cards
• Assist HFLI in troubleshooting and resolving server and network problems
• Assist HFLI in deploying new equipment


Planning & Policy —
• Work within an annual IT budget aligned with Board approved general budget
• Assist with annual E-Rate applications, school-level grants, input/ management of contracts, confirmation of invoicing and reimbursement processing
• Develop and maintain a 3-year technology plan in alignment with HFA Network core instructional program
• Assist HFLI with technology plan implementation
• With support from HFLI, maintain plans for equipment replacement
• With support from HFLI, maintain plans for software upgrades and replacement


Professional Development —
• In coordination with supervisor, offer professional development opportunities for teachers and administrative staff on relevant topics including but not limited to: computers, tablets, software, and other instructional tools
• For professional development offered by HFLI, assist as needed
• Stay current on new and upcoming technology by researching new tools for use in K-12 education
• In coordination with HFLI, identify and participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills
Implementation of HFA Model —
• Provide consistent focus on and reinforcement of the Five Developmental Areas
• Provide consistent focus on and reinforcement of Public School in a Public Space and Work Place as the Learning Space
• Provide consistent emphasis on and support for college and career exploration and preparations


Professional Obligations —
• Meet all obligations as set out in the HFA Staff Handbook and other related tasks as requested.

REPORTS TO: HFLI Associate Director of Information Technology

Experience Required

• Bachelor’s degree or 4-5 years of full-time technical support experience, including supporting Apple equipment.
• Intermediate level troubleshooting and operating experience with: AFP, Bonjour, DHCP, DNS, FTP, SMB
• 4-5 years experience managing Open Directory and Active Directory
• 3-4 years experience supporting wired and wireless networks
• Demonstrated time management skills
• Highly effective and transparent verbal and written communicator

• Experience in K-12 education
• Demonstrated experience in finding innovative ways to use both new and existing technology
• Demonstrated ability to switch tasks quickly and manage multiple tasks at one time
• 4-5 years experience working with Student Information Systems, including PowerSchool
• Experience with a range of creative tools on computers and tablets, including iLife and iMovie
• Experience with Google Applications, especially Google Sites and Google Docs
• 2-3 years experience with mobile devices
• 2-3 years experience in website development
• Experience in the areas of community and/or educational reform, community partnership development, and collaborative decision-making and leadership
