For participants in the Intro to Design Thinking workshop, please review the materials below prior to the workshop.



Review Chapter 1 of the book “The Art of Innovation” by Tom Kelly, brother to David Kelly, the founder of IDEO. The first chapter discusses the shopping cart re-design, as a way to illustrate the important principle IDEO uses in its process. Use this reading to understand the goal of a “deep dive,” the importance of user-centered design in innovation, and different practices that support the principles of innovation.


Read “Creating Innovators: Why America’s Education System is Obsolete,” in which Tony Wagner makes the case that Innovation and Creativity skills can and should be taught, are key for improving our economy, and require a different approach to education. Forbes Magazine, 4/25/12.
